Recap & Review: Fringe has hit Fox, and it has become one of the hottest series on television in recent months. Since the start of the season, I have been covering the season of Fringe on my celebrity blog, Celebrity Today , but from this point forward my weekly recaps and reviews of Fringe will be posted to this blog. The subject matter of the series goes along with this blog well, and I think it will be a perfect fit. To see my past reviews, click the link to my blog above.
This series started off on a slow foot for me, but as the series progresses, I find myself getting more involved in the series. My one issue with the series has been the character of Olivia Dunham and how dry she is. Walter is really what makes this series worth watching. The fact that at any moment, Walter can and will say just about anything is something that has kept me watching even at the beginning when I didn’t think I would go on.
This week’s episode, we see a bank robbery that ends up going deadly wrong for one of the robbers. The odd thing about this robbery though is that the men access the safe by walking through the walk. One man mentions the use of a grid, and it appears they have only a limited amount of time before the wall closes on them. This is how the man dies. He is caught in the wall at the last possible moment. Because of this, another man on his team shoots him. Olivia and her team are called in, and it turns out she knows the man that died. She served in the military with him.
While Walter and Peter work on that part of the case, Olivia goes to tell the man’s wife. She remembers the woman from having dinner in that very house years before, but the woman has no memory of Olivia. In fact, the woman says it wasn’t Olivia at that dinner, but John Scott. This man comes up once again. It turns out Olivia’s brain is confusing the memories of John Scott. She figures this out when she returns to the bank to talk to Walter. He is working on getting a sample of the man’s body for testing. He does this by cutting off the man’s hand. As for John Scott, he is still being held captive by Massive Dynamic.
Walter discovers what the bank robbers did. Somehow they used high frequency waves to weaken the wall and allow another mass to walk through. However, this also makes the men radioactive. Olivia wants to find out more about the man that died, so she takes Peter to a bar. They don’t find out, but while they are talking Olivia’s rambling about the box numbers triggers something in Peter. He rushes from the bar to his hotel room where Walter is sound asleep. The box numbers are in a sequence, and Walter soon realizes those boxes might have been his.
Olivia continues to research, and she is trying to find out what the next bank location will be. She does find out who the men will be after going to the VA Hospital in DC that the man that died spent time in. Walter is able to tell Peter the bank to go to. Olivia arrives before the bank robbers do. When they do arrive, they go on the run, but Olivia is able to stop one by shooting him. It appears the men were doing all this work for some type of camera. They have the one man, and when Olivia doesn’t successfully interrogate him, Peter goes in. The man is suffering from radiation poisoning, and Peter uses that to get him to talk.
Olivia goes to the location the man gives Peter, and Walter tells his son about the device. Apparently, it can be used to travel through time and bring back through any time. The question is who do they want to bring through. We learn that quickly. Throughout the episode, Mr. Jones appears. This is the man that Dunham met with in Germany. The men are using this machine to break him out of jail, and he also wants Dunham for some purpose. It appears his people are able to capture her. Her boss immediately goes to Massive Dynamic.
This episode looked promising. The door bursts wide open with this episode. Olivia has been captured, and it appears they want what is in her head. Bad news here is - no more Fringe until the series returns with new episodes in January. What did you think of this week’s episode?
