The Story Of Resurrection Mary
This story has been told time and time again over the years. The story of a spirit that many have seen over the years on the road outside Resurrection Cemetery in Chicago. Some call Mary the most famous ghost in the city. As the story goes, a woman is picked up on the side of the road. She is usually picked up by men, and she is dressed formally in a white dress and dancing shoes. She is often quiet, and when the man drives near Resurrection Cemetery, she asks them to stop and let her out. She then disappears into the cemetery.
There is also one story where she is seen at a dance, and she dances with a boy there. The boy then offers to take her home and lends her his jacket because she is so cold. The same thing happens. He drops her off at the cemetery, but she takes his coat with her. The next day when he comes for his jacket, he finds it laying on the grave of Mary. This ghost story has fascinated many over the years. It has become the subject of television shows, and movies have been made about it.
Mary is said to be one of two young women that died in the late twenties or early thirties following a night at the Oh Henry Ballroom. As the legend goes, she had a fight with her boyfriend and left him there to walk home alone. She was hit and killed by a driver and buried in Resurrection Cemetery. Many have seen the ghost of Mary since 1939. What do you think? If you live in Chicago, have you ever seen Mary for yourself.

I live very very close to Resurrection Cemetary and hear these stories all the time. I’ve never seen the phenomenon, but know many people that claim to have experienced something similar. Girl in white dress, crosses the street at a moments notice, slam on brakes, then poof….nothing.
Mary isn’t the only spirit haunting that place. One of my really good friends swears up and down a man was in his backseat when he was driving near the cemetary, and to this day will not take that route.
